FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. What is the deposit requirement for a residential unit?
A.
Deposit for new customers is $100.00

Q. How do I close my service account?
A.
Call the Office at least the day before you want service disconnected. You will be asked to supply your forwarding address and the date of disconnection. Even though you have vacated or sold the property, you are responsible for all charges through the final date. If you do not request a final disconnection, the service will remain in your name and you will be responsible for all charges incurred until the request is made or the account is closed.

Q. When will my deposit be refunded?
A.
After three years of service the security deposit may be applied as a credit to a residential customers’ account upon request if a customer has had no more than three late penalties and has not had disconnection of service for nonpayment, during the preceding thirty-six (36) month period. If the account is closed prior to the three year period, the deposit will be applied to the final billing.

Q. When is my bill considered past due?
A.
Payment is due within 19 days from the billing date. For example, if the bill date is March 5, all payments received in our Office by 7:30 am on March 24 are considered current. This means payment must be delivered to our office (either via the mail, drop box or paid in person within the 19 days from billing date).

Q. Do you have a drop box?
A.
You may drop off your payment in the drop off box at " style="color: #000080;" target="_blank"> 216 West Sealy Street located on the west side of Alvin City Hall at the drive through window. Please Do Not Put Cash In The Drop Box.

Q. If my service has been disconnected for nonpayment, how do I get service restored?
A.
If your service is disconnected, the total past due amount, reconnect fee and a possible increased deposit will be collected before service is restored. (Your deposit will be increased by twice the amount if you become delinquent or disconnected two (2) times within a twelve-month period.)  Service may be restored the same day as disconnect if payment is received in the Water Utility Billing & Collection Office before 4 p.m. If payment is received after 4 p.m., service will be restored the next business day after 10 a.m.

Q. If I have a check returned due to insufficient funds, what should I do?
A.
If a check is returned due to insufficient funds, the check must be replaced with cash or money order. Also the amount must include a $35.00 return check fee. This must be completed within 24 hours of tag being processed or customer being contacted by our office.
